How It Works
WebGauge is made up of two components: the router, which keeps track of how much data each device has used; and the WebGauge service which allows you to see your data usage from anywhere in the world.
The Router
When you purchase a WebGauge router, it is preloaded with our specially developed software which counts how much data each computer (or iPod, iPhone, PSP, etc.) is using. The router will periodically send this data to the WebGauge servers, so it can be securely stored and processed.
Note: For privacy reasons, the router does not, and will not, EVER, keep track of which websites you visit, what you have downloaded, or any other similar confidential information. It has been designed to only keep track of how much data is used, and doesn't care, or record which website it has come from.
The Service
WebGauge's "My Flat" area provides you with easy to read graphs showing how much of your internet data cap has been used up by each flatmate. It also provides you with access to a detailed breakdown of data usage, on a per-flatmate and per-device basis.
At the end of your billing cycle, you can use the "Split the Bill" calculator to work out how much of the bill each flatmate should contribute, based on their recorded data usage and quotas.
For advanced users, you can also download a CSV file containing the data usage information we store, to do your own analysis and calculations.
Your privacy is important to us, so all data on WebGauge's servers is stored in secure data centres.
